7 Simple Changes That Will Make A Huge Difference In Your Upvc Replacement Door Handles

UPVC Replacement Door Handles

The handles on your doors wear out with time and require to be replaced. When replacing them, it is essential that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the old handle.

The three measurements to check are the top screw position as well as the key hole and lever dimensions. Refer to the size guide for help with this.

Inline Lever/Lever

A lever handle or lever is a contemporary door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This kind door handle is available in a variety of styles and finishes. This handle is offered by several manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.

Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle

The handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed from robust materials, and are perfect for doors with multiple points that need a heavy-duty design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same spindle and screws to fix them. They can be easily installed on new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.

The sprung lever design allows the handle to be positioned and angled to ensure a comfortable experience and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200,000 cycles. This helps ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance is maintained over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to accommodate a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors with smaller door frames where the cylinder is further back. A shortened lever can also be used on doors with a latch that can be activated with the thumb inside.

Lever Pad

The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are found on most doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are typically employed on UPVC doors with double glazing. They are available in a variety of finishes & variations.

The handles are available in a variety of finishes, including White, Chrome and Gold. The finish is in line with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, thereby giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for its intended use.

All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles are supplied with the spindle and screws which allow them to be put on any new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixing centers of 211mm allow for a larger size of handle which can often be a benefit when replacing a damaged or worn multi point door lock mechanism. The handle levers come with springs, which can solve the issue of  door handles  that move out of their horizontal position when they are not being used.

When choosing the replacement UPVC handle and spindle it is important to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is often known as the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres which is a crucial aspect to match the appropriate handles.

After you have identified the correct size of PZ, you will need to make sure that the lever and push pads are designed to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. These are typically rectangular or round in shape, with an internal lever and external push pad.

The majority of UPVC lever pads that we sell are sprung, meaning that they will return to their horizontal position when not in use, instead of hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from entering a property. Also, the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are hand-operated that allows you to put them on either side of the door.

Euro Cylinder

Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. The cylinder lock is operated by a key which unlocks the cylinder's case. This exposes pins that can be aligned to the pins in the lock and allow them to rotate the camera that rotates, opening the door. Euro cylinders can be fitted with up to six pins. Internal and external doors require different levels of security.

The selection of a cylinder is crucial. It depends on the type of use your doors and handles receive. For instance, exterior doors must be secured with a higher security cylinder, while doors inside can be secured with an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders are available with extra features which can enhance security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump features.

A euro cylinder needs to be measured accurately to ensure that it is the right size for your door. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, if there is one. It is best to do this with the lock in place however, in the event that this is not possible, you may remove it to measure. A cylinder that extends beyond the handle and escutcheon could be vulnerable to attacks, such as snapping locks, therefore it is essential to make sure it's not too long.

Most modern cylinders are constructed with bump and anti-drill features that are built into their design. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to rotate in a new direction. This helps deflect the attack and protect your doors.

There are also cylinders constructed to resist snapping. This is an increasingly common type of attack on cylinders, where the break line inside the lock is smashed with a special tool to break the front of the cylinder and allow the door to open. This is a quicker and more convenient method of gaining access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which could make it difficult to prove insurance claims.

Spring Cassette

This spring cassette is found within the base plate of your door handle. It offers a spring-loaded solution to return your multipoint lock handles back to their resting position after usage. There was a time when handles of this kind did not have a spring built into them, and without it they tend to droop or  drop once the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple feature is one of the most effective ways to fix this, and is an excellent way to stop your upvc doors from getting stuck in either closed or open position, as they aren't always simple to close manually.

These spring cassettes are specifically designed for use with multipoint locks sprung, they will not fit unsprung multipoint handles and you must have a custom hole cut into your backplate in order for them to fit (please see image for technical diagram). These cassettes can be used as a replacement to damaged or missing cassettes in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.

These spring cassettes offer an excellent value solution for the problem of door handles that have become sagging. These spring cassettes are simple to install and can extend the lifespan of your uPVC door.
